Dubious Candy desert retreat begins

I am here for a week to create a one-hour Dubious Candy soundtrack for an episode of Mysteries of UB, which airs on Peralta TV in Oakland. Here is the most delicious way to start things off: pizza and red wine.

Jorge Bachmann aka [ruidobello] has worked as a media artist, experimental composer, and curator. He is a founding member of MEI.collectiv, a multidisciplinary group of artists. His eclectic work ranges from subtle musique concrete soundscapes to analog synth minimalism. Since the early 1980's he has been exploring the strange, unique and microcosmic sounds of everyday life, collecting field recordings and creating soundscapes meant for deep listening. My icon of the Cailleach

During quarantine, I began developing my visual art practice in earnest.
Here is my icon of the Cailleach, the Scottish Old Woman of Winter, made with acrylic paint, glass beads, and vintage jewelry parts.
It's a photograph of the original. If you post it anywhere please credit me.

Giving a paper at Mystic South 2023

The annual Mystic South conference is coming up in July. I'm thrilled to report that I will be giving a paper at the conference entitled "Reimagining Gender Polarity in the Gardnerian Tradition". Here is the abstract:

On July 18, 2022, 47 Gardnerian Elders electronically published “A Declaration of the Traditional Gardnerian Wica”, representing a schism in the tradition related to the 21st-century transformation in the Western conception of gender. This paper will examine the schism through the lens of ritual studies, exploring liminality, group unity and egregore, identity formation, and ideology; and suggest possible solutions to the conflict. If the Gardnerian tradition is to survive in a World of Form where cisgender heterosexual female and male are only two of myriad possibilities, and where inclusivity is the norm, fundamentalism and a literal reading of Gerald Gardner’s words is not the answer. Rather, it is time for a new chapter in the history of the Gardnerian tradition, a new understanding of polarity, and a new identity for the Witch.

Live on KFJC on February 7th

I'll be a guest on Max Level's show on Tuesday, February 7th between 7 and 10 pm, to talk and play music in memory of Terry Boblet, aka SAL 9000. Her show, "The Ultimate Trip" was my Saturday morning ritual for years. She loved Murphy and Rima. Not hearing her voice on Saturday mornings has taken a lot of getting used to. I hope wherever she's listening from, she enjoys the music I've picked out.
