Reconnaissance Fly's Joshua Tree weekend

Hello everyone.
Please alert all your Southern California associates that Reconnaissance Fly is about to embark on its Joshua Tree tour.  (I can't resist calling it that, even though there are only 2 shows, so maybe it doesn't count as a "tour" -- but certainly a weekend.)

First up, on Saturday night October 18th, we will be playing at the Palms Restaurant, up last after the Sibleys and Hay Fever.
83131 Amboy Road
Twentynine Palms, CA  92277
The show starts at 8 pm.

The following evening, we and Hay Fever will be featured in the Radio Free Joshua Tree Listening Lounge.
597 29 Palms Way
Joshua Tree, CA  92252
The band order is:
5:00 pm - Bob Derwood Andrews
6:00 pm - Hay Fever
7:00 pm - Reconnaissance Fly

You can also hear the show live on the interwebs, at:
so don't worry if you are not in the area.  You won't miss out.

New Reconnaissance Fly videos now posted

I had a great time performing live with Reconnaissance Fly in the KFJC Pit on August 24th.  Here are our four favorite videos from that set:

This is a brand new instrumental tune by Tim Walters.

You might remember this one from Not Made of Stone by Polly Moller & Company, but it's different now!

This is a brand new piece by Amanda Chaudhary.

And here is An Empty Rectangle, a tune from our album Flower Futures.

Reconnaissance Fly on the airwaves and on the stage

Hello everyone.

We are outside the recommended cheese and we have a very busy weekend coming up.

First, we'll be performing live on KFJC 89.7 FM between 2 pm and 6 pm this coming Friday August 22nd.  We will be the special guests of host Grawer, visible on the KFJC HD Live Cam and audible on the live stream at http://www.kfjc.org.

This will be to get everyone in the mood for our show this coming Sunday afternoon at 4:30 pm at Bird & Beckett Books and Records, 653 Chenery Street, San Francisco.  It's very convenient to the Glen Park BART Station and there's no cover, just a $10 suggested donation.

We have the place all to ourselves for 2 hours so we'll be playing all the tunes we know, and some we don't!  Hope to have your ears one way or the other, on the radio or amongst the books at Bird & Beckett.

This Thursday night in Sacramento -- no fires this time.

Reconnaissance Fly will finally take the stage this Thursday night in Sacramento, at Shine Coffeehouse, 1400 E Street #A.  Last time we were there, on April 3rd (exactly three months previous), we arrived to find the building next door on fire, fire trucks and dozens of firefighters, black smoke belching and flames leaping skyward.  The block was cordoned off and there would be no gig that night.

Fortunately the coffeehouse escaped unscathed and the FUTUREWANG! series went on.  We are rescheduled for July 3rd, and we're going first, around 8:20 pm.  It will be glorious.

IMPERIAL ORDER reviewed in the Berkeley Daily Planet

Jubilith Moore and I represented Theatre of Yugen at the Contemporary Diasporas Festival, reviewed in the Berkeley Daily Planet.

"Theatre of Yugen's artistic director Jubilith Moore performed with musician Polly Moller an improvisation, in brilliant costume from the Noh stage, from the story to ancient play, 'Semimaru'—exceptional voice, gestures, movement and flute, as a disturbed princess, wandering the hills near Kyoto, hears a flute and finds her blind brother—turned out of the Imperial court to die—playing it in a hut." - Ken Bullock

Contemporary Diasporas Festival, May 9th

Jubilith Moore and I will be representing Theatre of Yugen on May 9th, in the Contemporary Performance Diasporas Festival hosted by Inferno Theatre Company.

Theatre of Yugen Artistic Director Jubilith Moore and Associate Ensemble Member Polly Moller come together to create the ancient original improvisation IMPERIAL ORDER, inspired by the Noh play, Semimaru.  What is right and what is its reverse? How many souls travel this mountain pass?  How is a flower on the branch separated from its fragrance?  After traveling the wind, can the falcon find its falconer?  What hurts more, the leaving or being left?

Of course you want to know everything -- and you can find the full schedule of performances and purchase tickets on Inferno Theatre’s website:  http://infernotheatre.org/

It will all happen at South Berkeley Community Church, 1802 Fairview Street in Berkeley (entrance on Ellis) conveniently located four blocks from the Ashby BART station.
